Train to Barcelona
« on: May 15, 2016, 15:08. »
Has anyone done it ? Looking for a couple of days break during my summer weeks.

Not wanting to drive so train  might be the answer (although I know we can fly also)

Yes we have. It takes approx. 5 hours and is a very scenic journey. We booked " preferente" which is first class. We last went 2 years ago and it cost 180 euros return for  the two of us, we thought it was good value, there is a buffet car but some early morning journeys include food and drink in 1st class.
We booked online with RENFE. Also you don't need to be there hours before and you can take plenty of luggage. We really enjoyed the experience.

Not been to Barcelona but went to Madrid and preference is very good, you get a 3 course meal wth wine/coffee/liquor . Very comfy seats and access to the first class lounges at train station where you get free drinks/snacks/wifi.

You need to book as soon as seats come on sale which is about 3 months in advance if you want best prices.

I did the trip from Barcelona to Alicante about 7 years ago. As denandrose says, it is about 5 hours. I found it mind numbing.
