Not a lot to say?
« on: October 17, 2017, 09:52. »
I’ve just been looking at a few statistics re forum usage, 10 members have contributed 40% of all the posts made, this is unlike any forum I use, on other forums I use you get a far wider spread of members regularly asking questions and contributing.
Does it say that the vast majority couldn’t care less?
Does it say that a few of us spout too much, me being the major culprit!!
Does it say that the area doesn’t really need a forum or that other forms of social media have taken priority?
Over to you!!

Regards all

John

I think John that so may of us have been there for 15 years and therefore we tend to have connections for builders ,plumbers etc.  May change soon with the next influx of people buying all the new stuff going up.

It is still a very good forum though and getting more useful for those of us who are getting forgetful , Ha Ha !!!

Keep up the good work , I'm taking over from you next week for 6 weeks

One of things I like to hear about is the “what’s it like?”  threads - so in the spirit of that, I’m on a gloriously quiet and beautifully warm Urbanova beach this morning

I can see the point that you, David D, are making and I agree. Too many times a thread has descended into farce, arguments, insults due to the replies by a few contributors. Other than that though I find the forum helpful, informative, and at times amusing.

I think it has been quite tame lately, not like in the old days.  I would miss it if it wasnt here.  I look every day when i am on the train to work.  Have tried several restaurant recommendations and sold a few bits so long may it continue

I like the forum. It's been quite handy for me.
I think there are quite a few lurkers who are maybe too timid to join in.
Maybe they're frightened of some of the bigger characters on here and what replies they might get.
Personally I'm easy going and wouldn't dream of dishing out abuse.....and anyone who says different will get a smack in the face!

Cheers
Davy !!!

Hi
I look each day and enjoy seeing the input of both visitors, and residents like us, but some have been vilified for statements like that!!, only last week I was astounded as to how a thread about Mercadona opening a pharmacy was turned around. If any one wants to input please respect their right to do so, if anyone wants to start a thread about anything cast your nets if any one is interested then let us and them watch the results, my wife and I have had great results in her hobby of sewing here in GA, she has had many hours enjoying doing a service and advise on dressmaking curtains and things you would not believe!!!.
I am at present enjoying the restaurant/ hotel reviews, most positive, but I do respect ALL views, I am a leading member of the older generation walking football being held at the sports centre next to "new market" where we welcome all, but one of our other members does not post on this any more because of the sarcasm by members previously.
I am aghast to mention the festive season fast approaching, Halloween is a great night around GA we will be La Piedra, a great night, lets all agree to give this Forum a go with info that we can all use for the good of each other. That said I also hope that we can keep a sense of humour, especially to me a Sunlund fan Till I die
Cheer

Jim

Here we go then. Some of us remember the old plaza forum run by hans and if you think gasbags is sometimes harsh the plaza was brutal. But there were some real characters with good lively debate. Remember Lutons best restaurant awards every year, the results upset many. Gasbags is a forum where people share opinions, no one is necessarily right or wrong, but as shown on this thread already if someone doesnt like a response they pick there ball up and cry foul and stop taking part in further discussion. Thats fine with every discussion ending after 2 responces, the forum becomes a reference library and quite pointless. Whether you agree with my posts or not i dont much care, i will always give my opinion based on how i see it, unlike many i have no vested interests to promote, if a meal was crap i will say its crap. GA is evolving daily and without posts about jellyfish on the shirley bassey, or erik can no longer fix my aircon life in ga would get that little bit harder. So to all the armchair piggybackers who only view but never contribute, play your part, and to the forum wallflowers apparently lamarina have a nice forum on basketweaving.
I will also add that i stay within the forum rules, unlike several nice members who quickly get there spandex in a twist and start throwing insults

I find the forum very useful but don't post comments as the 2 times I posted previously I got a sarcastic response.

Always enjoy your posts John and especially your photos. I post intermittently when something really interests me and used to look more often years ago but as someone mentioned when there are a lot of new people there will be more posts. We have still found this a very useful forum though.  I agree with jdr, always good to see whats happening but sometimes I as with others have been put off when a post goes off topic and ends up with an argument about something that has nothing to do with the post.

Over to you.

Surprisingly im also a member of several other forums of a more specialist nature, ive also been an amazon vine reviewer for many years and a secret diner, some might think ive got too much time on my hands which maybe i have. But what all these things have in common are people participation. Lets be frank here without Mr Hannons efforts this forum would fade away, its got 513 members but most contribute squat, clearly the discussions are heavily viewed, sometimes over a thousand times but most thread's wither and die with few responses. Yes there is a fine line between being funny and sarcastic but sitting in your armchair being a voyeur will end this forum. As my ex para grandad said to me many years ago " grow a pair and get involved ".

Looking at the list the top thirty are all regular posters. I reckon if I post 10 times a day for the next week and a half I can knock 'Sunseekers' off tenth position.

We found Hans' forum invaluable when we first bought in GA some 10 or more years ago.
There were delays, builders going out of business, trouble with agents etc.
It was somehow comforting tho have a forum to discuss things and realise that many
others were having the same problems and one was not on one's own.
There were requests for tilers, air-con fitters, curtain and awning suppliers and all the
other bits of information one needs when setting up a new house.  There was much building
going on and many newcomers needing advice.

GA has matured since then (along with the owners) and there are fewer new arrivals, so
I imagine there is less need for a forum such as this.  Or maybe newcomers are moving
into existing property so there is less need for urgent and essential information.
I also suspect that various social media are used much more.

On the other forum I logged in every time and was ready to contribute
immediately. Now I look at the forum every day but just lurk, only bothering to login if I
have something that I think is reasonably important or interesting to say, because the
site is insecure.
