There are also changes to travel, as outbound international travel will be banned, except for work and travel within the UK will be discouraged, also except for work.

This is the law from Thursday here in England

Just for clarity Derek. (from a GOV.UK FAQ site)

"it is not immediately clear if this will be a legal ban or just guidance.

People will be told not to travel unless for a limited number of essential exemptions - similar to those for leaving your house (above).

People will be expected not to go on holidays, either domestically in the UK or abroad.

Travel for work - including abroad - will still be allowed.

It was not immediately clear if this would be a legal ban or just guidance. The current system of travel corridors was expected to remain in place."

So my flight to Lanzarote is on tomorrow at 06:45 and I am on it - away for 10 days. Not "gaming" the system has been often quoted - just doing as I am allowed. If I cant get back I'll stay

Memo - Lanzarote case rate is 23 / 100,000 over the last 7 days

Lanzarote has a rate of 23 per 100,000 where as your home town has a rate of 198 per 100,000 and it's a rate that is rapidly increasing......surely that's the important figure to be quoting.

We live in a holiday resort in the UK, as residents we are almighty sick of the influx of visitor coming from places with higher levels of infection, they may well be allowed to, but what about their moral obligation?

We are now in the Tinsel and Turkey season, I was very pleased to read of hotels last week taking the decision to contact those in Tier 3 areas and cancel their bookings.

Rant over!!

Regards all, stay safe

Listening to Michael Gove on Andrew Marr this morning Derek his view seemed to concur with yours.

I agree it’s quite clear you can fly out before Thursday for any reason but from Thursday it is illegal to go to an airport for any reason unless you are travelling to your main home or arriving from abroad

Must move my flights comment.

Can you not see the danger. There is a real chance of death as the health services cannot cope. Yet a few are trying to beat the date. I just wonder if the virus works to the same calendar as the human race does!

I just give in. Everyone here knows my view, so pointless repeating it. If nothing else the opinions on here (well roughly half of them) just reinforce my view that the human species is doomed, and more selfish than I realised before.

Are you saying those that travel from areas of high infection rate to other areas are the selfish ones or the other way around?

Gavetran i share your annoyance, 6 months ago i stated my opinions regarding the “Im alright Jacks” sod the rest of you element. And as i and others predicted were back to point zero if not worse, are they bothered, i dont think so. I will say no more as on final warning.

@Derek. I am saying people travelling for a stint here in the sun are the selfish ones. I think you have misconstrued my sarasm (lowest for of whit after all) on a few occasions. For the record I think people should have the common decensy to follow the "logic behind the rules" and not "the letter of the rules".

Right now I could for example (fully within the rules) grab a taxi Alicante and spend the evening pubbing and clubbing and then jump on a flight to an isolated Inuit community. Could I - sure. SHOUD I - probably not. Others don't share my view.

I am "low risk" by the way. At least in my opinion. Fit and ready. Those around me, and also the economy.... not so much. So no holidays for me this year...or the next two.
