Went to Town Hall to get a Padron,
Sorry, they said - the rental agreement has to be in Spanish !!!!!
I am just asking, when do they wake up,
when are they able to read English, like the rest of EU ???
So, we will not change our adress.
Wonder if they have calculated, how much it will cost them,
cause I can't be the only one.
After 15 years in Spain, I still feel sorry for them.

You are in Spain, that’s why they want it in Spanish!!
I get annoyed when councils in England pay for notices and forms to be translated into Punjabi, Urdu and the like, well done Santa Pola for wanting it all in their native language IMHO

With you 100% on that John

With you 100% on that John
Yo también!
Leaving aside for now the - in my view - wholly ridiculous idea that the whole of Europe should speak/use English, the rental agreement should ( if it was drawn up according to Spanish law) already exist in Spanish anyway. Ask whoever prepared it for an official copy.

Yes - we are in Spain, but - we are also in EU, most other EU countries accept documents in English and other languages.
Tourism is this country's biggest business, maybe they should provide a little more service if they want to keep us here.
-
Yep, its us Brits fault we don't speak Spanish not their fault that they don't speak English, also a myth that all EU countries speak English.
-
Agree 100% with you John, at the hospital recently there were pamphlets in umpteen different languages, the NHS is hard up enough without having to pay for all this paper.
-
I'm not English, but speak both English and Spanish.
I'm just tired of Spain's ignorence of the English language.
We have spent enough on translators the last 15 years. No more - will keep our old address

I can't imagine anyone will be in the slightest concerned. :'( :'(

I'm never one to point out typos but "ignorence of the English language" really deserves special attention. As do you obviously ;) When you are ready to take to the streets demanding that the nationals of whatever country you are lucky enough to live in speak English just let me know :)

Looking at Fine's post, his 'I'm not English' comment and his flag I guess he's Norwegian. How's your Norwegian Gaveteran? Fluent? :)
-
I think that is the Danish flag.

No. I don't speak any Norwegian at all. Why do you ask?
-
Apologies to Fine yes it is the Danish flag. Congrats on speaking English (and Spanish).
-
Yes, that's the Danish flag. And I'm not a he.
In Scandinavia we are taught English from the age of 10, so I would say that most Scandinavians understand English.
And thank you so much for the sweet words here ...... ;)
-
Well said Fine! As your Mother tongue is not English we think that your command of the language is very good , in fact many English people would struggle with the correct spelling of "ignorance"
We thought that spelling mistakes on the forum were passed by without derogatory comments. !
-
Just want to say, in my final post, that I only pointed out the typo because I thought it was particularly funny given the context in which it appeared. I also thought that the OP was fair game for a jibe given the basic racist tone of his original post, in which he showed contempt for Spanish people for not speaking English. Over and out.

Agree fully gaveteran, taken in context the comments were understandable.
