Does anyone know what's going on at the airport.
They have put in vehicle recognition systems, it also looks like they will be putting barriers there also, this is at the entrance and exit where you park up to collect/drop off people at the airport.

I heard that they were going to do something like that to stop illegal taxis operating at the airport.

From what I've read its to do with those collecting passengers.
You now have 15 minutes
ANPR will clock your car entering, if you are longer than 15 minutes the barrier will not lift to let you out until you've parted with a few euros.
I reckon it could be very expensive parking if you overstay the 15 minutes

Most UK airports now do something similar...Leeds is £3.  to drop off and pick up.
Alicante is at least free for a short time. .......for now !!!!

In one-way I can see the legal taxis point of view but on the
other hand how are the holiday makers expected to get to the airport from GA
We were told we would have a taxi rank but none seems to have appeared
They could also do with one down the GA Centre
Maybe somebody could come up with an idea other than using an illegal taxi

Just my experience as a holiday maker...... We tried twice last year to book "legal  taxis" from our villa. 1st time  they could not work out the address we were telling them, (no doubt down to our bad spanish) then they just said "yes on the way" I knew they had no intentions  of coming. So we did wait 40 odd mins then drove (the mrs could not have drink) 2nd time they said 1 1/2 hour wait.
Do they really want to drive from Santa Pola to GA just to take us from near GA center to La Paletta ect. The "Local taxi" was there in 5 mins no problems. Do you think we would now trust a legal taxi to pick us up at 5am to get to the airport????

I have had same sort of experience as Phillip and I definitely would not trust them to take me to the airport.  Also ordered one to take us from the GA Centre to Med 2 after missing the train and it cost 15 euros whereas it wld have cost 5 from someone local.  I understand that its going to cost more as they come from Santa Pola but I don't want to pay 15 euros!!!
