Looks like a grass snake, harmless to us, did you have to cut your net to free it Kevin?

Yes, had to cut the net and it fought with amazing strength, it was a Grass Snake probably female as they are bigger than males, managed to hold it behind its head and check it over and was uninjured, apparently they seek out ponds and eat frogs which we have lot of, very prettily marked was the snake. Have read they lay forty eggs at a time. Years ago  I lived with my parents next to a village store who sold bananas that came in big wooden boxes and we use to get small scorpions in our garden that escaped from the boxes, very surprised the first time I found one.

I'll bet you were, don't fancy finding a scorpion. I don't mind snakes and glad to hear it was uninjured.
