After a month in GA flew back to Stansted yesterday morning, flight was only fifteen minutes delayed so was pleased, usual flight time being about 2hrs 15m so when the pilot said the flight will be three hours thought what ??, instead of following the coast up to Valencia and turning in land we went out to sea and flew over Ibiza and Majorca and across to Marseille where we turned North, pilot explained there were very strong head winds. I looked at the ground as we turned North into France and said to my wife I thin we are only doing about 40mph, seems I was about right as a couple of minutes later the pilot announced we had a ground speed of 100mph, we crept over France and at Paris had a ground speed of 175mph, eventually landed at Stansted at a flight time of a couple of minutes under 3hrs. I'm wondering if the trek west was to avoid the Pyrenees and to skirt around the head wind.
