Today I got my online energy bill for my big bungalow for the last three months bearing in mind that January has been colder than normal in the UK my daily combined consumption for electricity and gas has been £3.48 per day, not bad I thought, the heating room thermostat goes down to 18° at night 20° during the day and 21° in the evenings.

Spain is a joke for electric bills . It is one of the most expensive in Europe.

Some friends with a two bed apartment told us there was over €200 for December.
Ours was for 22 days "in residence"
Usual usage Steve in terms of cooking and hot water, the Mrs had to use the tumble drier five or six times, I guess the "big burner" was the aircon units running to keep the place warm.

Winter home in the sun, ha ha ha

John

PS Pity the bars and restaurants don't spend a few euros on keeping their places warm!!

We turn them off over night Steve, the duvet and rugs on the floor keep the chill off.
Let's face it, the construction of the houses isn't suited to the short Spanish winter

John thats why we gave up on GA in the winter, flights, car hire, heating etc. Just back from Los Christianos cost €2000 for 4 weeks at nice 4 star hotel and all incusive, we would spend that in GA over a month.
They dont like it up em !

Hi Kevin, we haven't done January for a few years, because of the big gamble with day time weather and the cold nights......I think it was a fair bit colder than normal
Like you, a big bungalow and a lot cheaper to heat than a small home in GA.
That sounds like a bargain Victor

It looks like it's getting warmer now ! So the bills will go down, just looked at my smart meter and its reading £3.44 today here in England so far, no a lot of difference and you get some sun during the day, here wet and cold all day everyday !!!!!! , I know we're I would rather be.

Ive just calculated that if Iberdrola charged the same tariff and taxes as I am charged in the UK the €165 bill would have been €98.25, a bit of a difference!!!
In reality our bill in the UK is is a lot cheaper due to the use of gas for heating, hot water and the hob.

Lack of any competition is the problem, we pay 25 euros a month with the mains switched off whilst in the uk, nice work if you can get it.

Seems like we picked the right January not to go John, wasted the flights but can't be helped.
