Title: CRAZY
Post by: Barry former GA Advertiser on January 05, 2016, 12:16.
CRAZY

Crazy things take place on Gran Alacant.

We like to use the coffee shop Sezadu which has parking outside adjacent to the school.
The Urbanisation that it is part of, have decided to gate their community.
They have put the gates BEFORE the coffee shop, rather than AFTER the coffee shop, meaning that the business is now gated in, losing their parking slots, and probably not helping their business.
What idiots made that decision, unless of course someone knows better.

Idiots who are sick of using of others using the private roads on our community.
People cant park outside their houses during the school run period due to parents cars parking their cars on private roads.
People are woken in the morning by lorries driving too fast over the speed bumps on our private roads with crates of bottles rattling away.
We have had signs saying Private Roads for a few years..........but no one takes any notice of these.
I dont supoose the other businesess on that corner will be too happy either.
We where told 10 years ago that the whole community would one day be gated, I have allways thought it a bad move........but I'm in the minority.
It has been debated continualy and shouldnt come as a surprise to anyone who owns a poperty on Novamar

John (Novamar resident)

No complaints about gating the community, buy why gate in somebody's business. Move the gates 20 yards. Brainless.
Title: Re: CRAZY
Post by: John H on January 05, 2016, 17:25.
Part of the problem of buying a business on a community......it has its advantages of being near plenty of "chimney pots" but other disadvantages
If the business/ parking places falls within the communities demise it has to follow the rules
There could well be several businesses operating from people's houses on the community, Spanish lessons, chiropractor, translator, etc etc......they all face the same problem and the same advantage.

John

PS More barriers are being installed.

Suppose as the community has to pay for road  repairs its in their interest to keep traffic off it, I wouldn't want customers driving over a road that  i have to contribute to the upkeep of.

Just thoughtless and unfair to a business, when moving 20 yards would solve it.

I'm with you Barry seems very unfair on the business if people can't get to it . I don't like gated communities I think they look a mess also how do emergency vehicles etc get in if an emergency happens and there is no one around to open the gates

They did ours a few years back doesn't seem to make a difference as a lot have people have multiple communities keys etc .

That's interesting as the road serves several Novamar phases. Is there still pedestrian access or is that gated too. My mailbox is just past Sezadu so it looks like I shall have yet another gate to  open just to pick up my flyers and junk mail. Gets more like Wormwood Scrubs as time goes by.

Post by: John H on January 06, 2016, 14:54.
It's a one way street Barry, it would be rather dangerous having cars/vans driving against the flow of traffic into the community if the barrier were moved further down the road

I'm wondering if you set the gates back beyond the café you would set a precedence , effectively saying we are not concerned about that section of the road between the gate and the public highway, by setting the gate at the junction there is no doubt, if It was my  decision in a similar situation I would have had the gates by the junction, it's unfortunate for the café but its more important to act in the interests of the community.

Agreed Kevin
The fact that the community would one day be gated has been on the agenda for 10 years
Manoli who owns the cafe also lives on Novamar as well as operating a business on the community
Herbie who operated the bar previously was aware that this was a strong possibility, he also lived on the community
The Administrators who offices are in the same block as Sezado use the cafe.....so I would guess the subjects been debated

The blocks for the little kids (ages 3+) are down that end, so now, on these cold mornings, their parents will have to battle for non-existent spaces right up the other end and walk down. Just so long as everyone can find a place to park their car on those frequent trips out at exactly 8.50 on the morning from which you return in no more than fifteen minutes.

Only in GA could ex-pats buy a house right next to a school and then complain about cars for a few minutes during the school run.

To be fair, the school was built some years after many people bought their homes there.

The homes got there a few years before and I have noticed that the school has expanded a lot on the land behind.

Like most others on this forum when we bought our houses there was no school also all the school run cars have no right to park on Calle Mensula its not a public road but owned by the Man Community so none of them have any right to complain if they can't park there

I feel sorry for anyone in the middle of Novamar waiting for deliveries, I can see major problems with lorries pulling into that bottle neck and just putting on their 'Spanish parking lights'.

This discussion has reminded me of a very random question. Does anyone know why the school blasts out English 60s music (same songs each day when I was there) at the same time. From memory it was something like the searchers and that sort of stuff.

I dont think we crazy expats swung the vote Rich
This crazy expat has always been against the idea, in all fairness I'm not on one of the busy roads so I don't experience any problems.
When I look at the results of any voting that takes place I'm one of only a few members of the crazy gang who can be bothered to vote. The apathy always surprises me.
The voters tend to be the Spanish residents

Maybe they choose a different selection each week. These were played around 11am I thin so like you say, maybe to signal the end of playtime. Think it was Merseybeat week!

Think the whole thing has arisen as a result of Santa Pola failing to adopt the road, although I understand they have met a token amount of expense in maintenance & running cost.
You can see both sides for them.  They are still supposed to provide services, but their traditional revenue stream (licences for new housing builds) has gone out of the window.  Why adopt a road & incur the expense if you can avoid it?  They don't collect rates like the UK, so I can sympathise.
On the other hand, you have to feel for the communities involved, who may have thought twice before spending a fortune on gating if SP had played ball.
This may also explain (other thread) why they are tightening up on unlicenced work on individual properties.  There have been enough towns in Spain in recent years where the lights have been turned off through lack of money.

I'm right next to the school which wasn't even there when I purchased. Some of those mums aren't too fussy in how they park either. One managed to reverse into my hire car just as I was walking back from the panaderia. Notwithstanding my remonstrations, she just shrugged and drove off. Fortunately I was able to effect a cosmetic repair before returning the car. Quite a number of them repair to Sezadu after dropping off their children, so they aren't all there for a few minutes. I know the problem that school run parking causes. I get caught up in it twice a week myself. It would be good if some of them learn't not to park slap bang in the middle of a two car space!

The music is somewhat intrusive as well. The volume is way OTT and the duration is excessive. If they wish to forgo the traditional bell, only a couple of bars of the music is needed not a complete symphony!

The music can be annoying, we live near it. Will mention it at our next magazine meeting and see the response.

We enjoy it!!
The Mrs and I play "name that tune" when it changes.
Last time we were out we had some Fontella Bass and the Adlibs, great stuff.
Perhaps if you dont like it, or think it too loud or long you should have a word with the school before you escalate it.

I love the music,it must be great  for kids to go to school singing Happy.
As some comments about us mad brits living down there, well I do and bought my house many moons before any school was built . The original plan said it was council owned open space and would remain so. The fact is the school has probably kept the standards of the area up as in the council pressure washing foot ways, fancy roundabouts, house prices
 etc .
I must say as i drive round other areas some of them look like dumping grounds for rubbish.
They did extend the parking area at the school but as in the UK and everywhere else in the world people will always want to park at the front door.
It will interesting to see when the new school is finished opposite the chemist how the residents up there react.

From the bumph I got from the Administrators, there appears there might be a challenge over the legality as it seems the Phase 3 community rejected it outright.
Title: Re: CRAZY
Post by: gaveteran on January 19, 2016, 12:52.
That sounds like fun developing!

I've lived on two gated communities here while our home was being finished. Gran Vista and Montefaro, both, in my opinion, a complete nightmare. It provided zero extra security. People would just sit outside the gate for five minutes and drive in and out. The guard had no legal rights to do anything at all, and after a while just gave up and watched TV - and collected more community funds.

It did though provide 100% more hassle, from friends and relatives unable to get in, constant mechanical breakdowns (people getting locked in when trying to get to work was particularly amusing), ambulance sirens at the gate, parcels from Amazon and wherever lobbed on the top grass, people trudging up the road hoping taxis would wait outside, or waiting themselves at 5am scared to miss them, just a complete inconvenience. And really to stop what?

I won't go into the incredible security failings at Montefaro in case I give anyone ideas, but suffice to say, that gate and guard (before they laid him of without replacement, after building an expensive outbuilding for him) was like putting lipstick on a pig.

Is there an upside I am missing? perhaps the ability to put "gated community" on the sales poster helps? No idea.

I suppose in this instance it stops parents parking for ten minutes, so tally ho.

If you would like to park outside cafe Sezadu, just pull up in front of the barrier, toot your horn, and the cafe will press the buzzer to let you in

It was a perfectly correct reason to gate an urbanisation and I am certainly not against that

Presumably the urb voted on it and made a democratic decision

Just all about the cafe

Reading all of these I have to be honest, having heard that the new school is going to be built up the top, I think opposite the pharmacy I am glad we are gated off up there, hope they do the sensible thing and build a car park alongside the school as the traffic up there is horrendous along Calle monte de Santa pola, anyway, without any added traffic from school drop offs, I can't imagine where they could park, there's only Altomar 1 not gated I think.
