How does he get away with this
Yes I know a lot of you use Ryanair because of price and flight times, but I'm sure your opinion would change if this was your flight

The company who's motto should be

We Really Don't Care

I will continue to use Ryanair because all things being equal they are usually way cheaper than Vueling, Jet 2 and Monarch. Often the other three are twice as much

Not suprised I use Ryanair a lot but and still will but why place an internal statistic as more important than meeting your commitments to paying customers ... 80 % is still better than loads of others

Cheaper doesn't work if your flight is cancelled though

And that's how he gets away with treating customers so badly, they come back for more

Hi Ash, I'll think twice.
As I posted earlier if we are traveling to and from Alicante it's an inconvenience.
Any where else and it's a nightmare.
For the extra £20/£40 I can see Jet2 and Monarch getting more of our business.

I must admit I've never agreed with the old adage The Customer is always right

But Ryanair has rewrote it to say
The Customer is never right and for  good measure we will treat them with utter contempt

It's genius

We booked flights back in Febuary with Vueling out to ALC for this December over a 10 day period, in June we were contacted by Vueling to say they had amended our flights, nothing unusual i thought Ryanair amend all the time. Vuelings amendments were flying out at 7am to Barcelona waiting 7 hours then flying on to ALC , the return flight was no longer 10 days away but 2 days with again a 7 hour stop in Barcelona. When i contacted Vueling they thought these flights were a suitable alternative but we could cancel with the appropriate fees, after many phone calls we got a full refund. After that debacle Ryanair look quite professional.

Totally agree it pays to know the rules then use them against the airlines. Having said that i probably fly somewhere around the world at leas twice a month both with the budget airlines and the national carrier's, and have to say Ryanair for what you pay are pretty good overall.
Title: Re: Ryanair Nightmare
Post by: BeachLife on September 17, 2017, 11:23.
I could (almost) find it acceptable if they published all the cancellations now, upfront to cover the 6 week period. You could then make plans. But with the current policy of 48 hours notice you could be left stranded and in real trouble if you are expected back in work. Yesterday they cancelled Alicante to Birmingham and Manchester (some of the busiest flights) Outrageous that will be 380 stranded
Title: Re: Ryanair Nightmare
Post by: Ash on September 17, 2017, 11:43.
BeachLife  they don't care
But it appears to a lot of their customers that this is acceptable because they sometimes get a cheap flight

Maybe the Ford Motor company will start selling cheap cars that only work on a Tuesday between 6 and 8

The more I read into this fiasco the more disgraceful it becomes.
As BeachLife says they should publish a full list of cancellations now to give people a reasonable chance of finding an alternative flight and amend their accommodation bookings.
We have four flights booked with them, they will be our last

Agreed that Ryan Air should give their customers fair warning of a cancellation, making it possible to make alternative arrangements.  Hopefully we will arrive home on time from our flight later in the month.  Next month we have agreed that we will fly with Jet2 instead as we have a business meeting for which we cannot be late or delayed. Customers need to vote with their wallets and avoid Ryan Air.  Jet2 are a viable alternative out of Stansted, their price structure on this newish route is on par with Ryan Air.  I cannot comment on Jet2 fares from other airports. Just read this that someone has sent to Ryanair;

Hello, I'm currently sat in Alicante Airport eating a Burger King (which you will be paying for, I'll explain why in a sec don't worry), as when I arrived here earlier today with my wife and her parents and waited in line patiently to go through security, our boarding passes were rejected. This came as a surprise to us, but you already knew this didn't you, you cheeky monkeys!!! And why did our boarding passes get rejected?? Because you CANCELLED OUR FLIGHTS AND DIDN'T TELL US!!!!!! Now this in itself is pretty abysmal, do you agree? But our issues don't stop there do they? Nope. You know what's coming next don't you, cos you're such cheeky monkeys, you have offered us absolutely no solution on how we get home whatsoever, have you?! Nothing. Nada. Do you want to know what the poor girl at your desk in Alicante Airport said to us?? She can get the 4 of us on a flight to Manchester....... A WEEK TODAY!!!!! Are you gonna tell my boss the good news, or should I?! So, to sum up, your company is a DISGRACE. This is only a rant whilst I munch down my Burger King (I've got the receipt to send you don't worry, it was nice too, so thanks in advance), a full and well structured complaint will be following soon enough. I just need to find my way home first, seeing as you have left us all stranded in Spain......

Ryanair did the same to us John, stranded in Newcastle no offer of an alternative flight for a week.  Just need to avoid Ryanair at all costs!!!! There is a very good company in Manchester that are Aviation Solicitors called Botts. They absolutely delight in sorting Ryanair out for abandoned customers, you are entitled to around £400 compensation each.  It's EasyJet for us from now on!!🛫🛫

I can see what he's doing here, he has lots of flights with dwindling numbers of passengers due to the end of the summer season, he has lots of staff who won't have been able to take leave during the silly season all wanting leave.
So he bins loads of flights which would be losing home money anyway, and hopes that lots of passengers won't bother to sue him for the full amount and just get a refund/alternative flight.
I think he's taking a risk but then as the saying goes 'any publicity is good publicity'.

None of this is a surprise the changes to seat allocation then hand luggage and now a blanket of cancellations
And to top it all O'Learys press conference which looked like the ranting of a lunatic he was even foaming at the mouth . It's his own fault treat staff badly they will move on and Norwegian air seem to have managed to get 130 pilots from Ryanair without having to train them
He has also stated that they will not pay for costs etc that people have incurred i.e. Non refundable hotels car hire etc

I hope people sue the hell out of them ,disgraceful way for a major company to behave and shows once and for all that they don't give a toss about customers

Spurs it certainly doesn't come as a surprise to me either, have used EasyJet for over 10 years(flying twice a week) and no they are not perfect but in that time have only had 1 flight cancelled due to fog at Gatwick which isn't a bad average in over approx 700+ flights and the large majority of those have taken off and landed on time.
I also use the EasyJet Plus card(£199) a year  so I always choose my seat get to take 2 items of hand luggage which isn't bad for just over £2 a flight
I have never even looked to see if Ryanair are cheaper and even if they were I wouldn't use them

I think there may be a few 1000 who will disagree with you
With regard to them being on time
I think the fact they allow 2 hrs 30/40 mins for what is approximately a 2 hour flight may have something to do with that and then they play the fanfare as if they have done something out of the ordinary

Yes as you say you have never had a problem but I think with Ryanair god help you if you do

I couldn't agree more, two cancelled flights out of over 200, neither of which was their fault. If Monarch, Jet2 and Vueling want my money they'll have to match Ryanair's prices.
Title: Re: Ryanair Nightmare
Post by: Corporal Jones on September 21, 2017, 09:45.
As ive said before many times im a big fan of Ryanair, there boss is a spiv and totally arrogant, there service is basic, there staff are normally hacked off, BUT there prices nearly always come out a lot cheaper for me who flys twice a month within Europe. I rate highly Easy Jet brilliant airline but from the midlands not the best rotes. Also put into perspective Ryanair fly millions of people they are huge, remember the British Airways debacles of recent years at Heathrow, Virgin left me stranded in New York last year because they always overbook there flights relying on people not turning up, i once landed in HongKong with Emirayes on the way to Australia for everyone to be told the second leg to Sydney was cancelled and to come back in 3 days, the list goes on. I think theyre all as bad as each other.
Title: Re: Ryanair Nightmare
Post by: Ash on September 21, 2017, 09:57.
Victor have to disagree with your there'll as bad as each other

Fly twice a week with EasyJet and have done for 10 years now, never had an issue with them.

Able to catch earlier flights(no charge )

Change flight dates (only pay price difference)
Name changes(free)

And when I have had to speak to their customer care department which is based in South Africa nothing is ever an issue.

Ash - you pay £199 a year for the above privileges and flying twice a week it is a good deal but for people like me who fly 10 times a year to ALC and back it wouldn't be worth it. I'm happy with the standard conditions. I struggle to fill my hand luggage let alone a suitcase each way.
Title: Re: Ryanair Nightmare
Post by: Ash on September 21, 2017, 11:09.
Actually

Being able to change flights and only paying the fare difference and name changes is free as I am in the EasyJet flight club which doesn't cost me anything.

And yes your right an EasyJet Pass does Cost £199 a year but as the seat I sit in Costs between £15 & £18 a flight and I'm able to take 2 items of hand luggage on is a total no brainer for me

Truth is millions fly with Ryanair hastle free, myself included, on countless occasions. They're dirt cheap and have got me too and from UK to Alicante for fantastic holidays so many times. I will continue to fly with them so long as they sell tickets as cheap s they do!

I think price is important but not when it costs you £700 to get home because he has cancelled a flight that he should never have advertised as they knew they didn't have enough staff to run it . It's amazing that up until Saturday you could still book seats on the flights they published as cancelled on Monday. The stories of people who have been refunded only part of bill i.e. not the charge for luggage or seat allocation etc are growing daily, his staff hate him and don't see his airline as a career just a stopgap to get the miles in before moving on to better he refuses to have union of any sort in there so it looks like the pilots have formed an unofficial one via social media

Resign man the company is more important than any one person including You

Spurs

I think you've summed up the situation perfectly

I spoke to EasyJet yesterday to alter a previously booked flight and asked if they were short staffed as they took longer than normal to answer
He explained rather diplomatically that over the past few days there work load had trebled due to a certain airlines issues.

Will be interesting to see if Mr O'Leary has overstepped the mark this time

Interesting comments from Spurs.

O'Leary should be applauded in how he has grown the company and the influence he has had on the industry as a whole.........the problem as I see it is that the company has outgrown him and his style.

Its time he handed the reins over to someone who has the skill set to put a new culture in the company that would make their staff feel valued.

On the evidence of everything I have read until the culture within the company sees a dramatic turn of direction, which isnt as simple as offering pilots £10,000 to alter their holiday arrangments, the current situation of flight cancellations will be ever present.

In these circumstances will I give Ryanair my business, no. Future flights will be booked with another airline who I feel will be more able to deliver on the contract I made with them to get us from A to B.

Spare a thought for poor ole Michael O’Leary, Chief Executive of Ryanair.

After arriving in a hotel in Manchester, he went to the bar and asked for a pint of Guinness.

The barman nodded and said, "That will be £1 please, Mr. O’Leary."

Somewhat taken aback, O'Leary replied, "That's very cheap," and handed over his money.

"Well, we do try to stay ahead of the competition", said the lbarman. "And we are serving free pints every Wednesday from 6 pm until 8 pm. We have the cheapest beer in England".

"That is remarkable value", Michael comments.

"I see you don't seem to have a glass, so you'll probably need one of ours. That will be £3 please."

O'Leary scowled, but paid up.

He took his drink and walked towards a seat. "Ah, you want to sit down?" said the barman. "That'll be an extra £2. You could have pre-booked the seat, and it would have only cost you £1."

"I think you may be too big for the seat sir, can I ask you to sit in this frame please".

Michael attempts to sit down but the frame is too small and when he can't squeeze in, he complains "Nobody would fit in that little frame".

"I'm afraid if you can't fit in the frame you'll have to pay an extra surcharge of £4 for your seat sir".

O'Leary swore to himself, but paid up. "I see that you have brought your laptop with you" added the barman. "And since that wasn't pre-booked either, that will be another £3."

O'Leary was so incensed that he walked back to the bar, slammed his drink on the counter, and yelled, "This is ridiculous, I want to speak to the manager".

"I see you want to use the counter," says the barman, "that will be £2 please."

O'Leary's face was red with rage. "Do you know who I am?"

"Of course I do Mr. O'Leary."

"I've had enough! What sort of a Hotel is this? I come in for a quiet drink and you treat me like this. I insist on speaking to a manager!"

"Here is his e-mail address, or if you wish, you can contact him between 9.00 am and 9.01am every morning, Monday to Tuesday at this free phone number. Calls are free, until they are answered, then there is a talking charge of only £1 per second, or part thereof".

"I will never use this bar again".

"OK sir, but do remember, we are the only hotel in England selling pints for £1."

You may laugh but did anyone see that recent easyjet documentary regarding they're pilot training program, if you were a nervous flyer before watching, you sure would be afterwards some were very level headed, most hadn't yet started shaving and there were even some girls. The one kid came on the tannoy, passengers stated he sounded about 12, sometimes your better off not knowing whos got your life in their hands.

The easyJet programme was great now I'm always looking to see if there are three in the cockpit because that seems to me the one flying is new and about 14 years old

Maybe O'Leary should try that employ kids as pilots they would not need paying as much or so many holidays

When I was flying regularly with Monarch just over 18 months ago now they had a young lady pilot; captain not first officer (Irish I thinkl). She got us up and down safely and you could understand her on the intercom not like some of the mumbling male pilots.
