Title: Couple of questions for our holiday in GA
Post by: WBA_Bloxwich on August 30, 2017, 12:58.
Hi all,

We had a holiday in GA waaaaaay back in 2008 in a townhouse on Don Pueblo and absolutely loved it.  We've decided to come back half term in October, this time over to Monte Y Mar by Darby's Chippy.

We're not overly familiar with that side of GA so we had a couple of questions.  If anyone could help it'd be appreciated.

We get over on the 21st of October and the Albion are playing at 5:30pm UK time on BT Sports.  Any pub recommendations where we could watch the game?  Was the Dick Turpin a WBA pub or was I imagining things?  :D

Last question, as an ale drinker, what are my chances of getting a decent pint of bitter in GA?  Don't mind the Mahou/Estrella, etc, but would prefer a decent pale ale if given half the chance.  What's the ale situation like in GA?

Cheers all.

The pub show all football games and that is in mass sq, were darts are, I think they also do a variety of beers,or you can get the bus / train up the top where you stayed before and go to Webster's, mick show all football games as well.

Dick Turpins is the best place to watch football in GA and has lots of bottles of real ale. The landlord was a fellow WBA fan but Paul has now sold up and returned to England. I wouldn't recommend Benidorm - it's full of miserable non - football types like Victor :-)

Benidorm.  Note the capital B.  Trying to be smart whilst being grammatically incorrect isn't a good look, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

I'm guessing that Victor replied with the above because:

a) I'd like to watch a game
b) like a pint of decent beer

that we must be some Sun reading, tracksuit wearing, chavtastic morons who would be better suited to the joys of all inclusive Benidorm rather than the rarefied air of GA?  Is he usually this stupid with his generalisations?

Cretin.

I don't usually visit Dick Turpins but did so a few weeks ago to watch the French open golf. The staff let us put it on one of their tellies and served some good john smiths and an extremely large red wine.
The gran alacant cribbage participants didn't say a word. Bless.

Masa Square has a few restaurants and bars The Pub is good so too is Rogers the food there is very good, breakfast excellent and lunches until 4pm they do not serve food in the evenings and usually have something going on at weekends.  Good Indian Restaurant, fish and chips and Patagonia Steak House.  Also in the GA centre plenty of bars and restaurants, Bar Loko  and American Bar amongst others and Get Fresh an excellent food

It's difficult if not impossible to get real ale in Spain.

The casks must be kept ideally at between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius.  There are no bars that I know of in GA with a cold cellar such as you find in the UK.  As 'Blue and white stripes' has mentioned, Dick Turpin's is the place to get bottles of British beer.

Lager is pretty tasteless to me so I usually bring a stock of bottled beer in the car when we drive down.

I noticed Big Al's had a real ale on hand pump last time I was there?

Thanks, SteveL.  I will investigate next time we are over in GA.  First I must locate Big Al's.

Can't believe you're mentioning Budweiser in the same thread as real ale. :-)

Not to my taste but it has been brewed since 1876 and is known worldwide as the King of Beers.

I thought Big Al's was only selling cans now? Nothing on tap last time we were in there!
