Did Grannet crash again this morning, or was it just my router? (Apologies to any sarcastic sheep out there.)
Bert

I think it did, that's the third time in a week it's gone down.

Worth remembering that Grannet is, as far as I know, an English company, as opposed to Telefonica who I use for internet, and despite their reputation, I haven't had a single problem in literally YEARS.

Good Morning folks,
Just to inform you all that we have now changed our backup service to an automatic service which will connect in the event of a break in service. This is a parrallel service, so you wont have any disruption apart from maybe having to re-load a page. This swervice has also been augmented to provide the speeds that you're used to. As you all know, GranNet work tirelessly to both improve and expand our fibre to the home service in Gran Alacant. Not even Telefonica can provide this service in Gran Alacant. So please be patient people. We are investing heavily to provide the best service available. Yes we are human and things can go wrong from time to time, equipment can fail, power can be cut, a digger may dig through a line in Madrid!! but when these things happen, we work as fast a spossible to restore service.
In the meantime, remember that we have normal office hours, just like any other service provider does. emails can be sent to me directly in the eventy of any out of hours problems at mark@grannet.es.

I doubt that their internet comes from the UK. The point I was making was that the Internet has been fluctuating in the last few weeks and is not of the usual standard that I have had from Grannet in the past.

I think Grannet is a Spanish registered company gaveteran.

I didn't say their internet came from the UK, that would be absurd. I simply pointed out that, as far as I know, they are (despite where they are registered, which is obviously Spain) a British run company. So any comments concerning Spain's lacklustre internet connections should not use them as a reference point.
-
Its not a British run company. The Directors I have met have been Spanish, Dutch and Irish and all the staff I have met have been Spanish.

Is mark not british ?

My family members from Ireland will all tell you that they are Irish, particularly as they live south of the border, I believe Mark is from the Dublin area

Regardless of the pretty high degree of pedantry, I don't think Grannet is not a "Spanish company" in any other regard than being literally registered in Spain.
My main point remains that I don't think Spain has poor performance is supplying a reliable internet connection. It simply depends who you contract, and what you pay for it. Unlike the UK, Spain doesn't record every click you make for the government to read, cap the connection even when its supposed to be unlimited, and send scary emails if you download coronation street, so in fact I think Spanish internet trumps the UK in every regard.
-
I don't think theUK does any of that never had a problem with my bt internet in uk or GATV in Spain both work very well
-
It must be a long time since you've used the Internet in the UK or you need to change your provider gaveteran.
For £27.20 a month I get a land line, free calls, caller recognition, Internet that's never been capped and we watch at least three or four movies a week in HD quality, security protection for up to five devices.......great value with no problems whatsoever
If GCHQ want to be a bit nosey, I'll accept that for national security.
As Spurs says GATV very good and great value for money, particularly on the "monthly" holiday package

I still don't see any relevance in where the company is registered having an effect on its internet reliability in Spain. They probably get the Internet from somewhere in Spain, and I find the service not as reliable as the Internet that I had in UK.

Agreed. I think the important issue is that Grannet seems to be cleaning up its act by installing a fall-back system. I´m happy to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Oops, had terrible problems with connection Thursday night/all of Friday. Anyone else?
Bert
-
Perhaps it is because of the problems we have with electricity at least where I live, at Montey y Mar. It varies a lot, sometimes almost no power at all and sometimes very strong. It must affect the internet as well?
-
Yep ours was very intermittent but mostly Thursday night, affected internet and TV. Didn't check again until Friday night when it was back to normal.

Well! I've had no phone for 3 days and all I got when I phoned on an alternative phone was a queue system which led to a full mailbox, which then cut me off.
I'd been told they were upgrading the cabling and expected mayhem
So threw a leg over shanksies pony and went into the Grannet office which was very quiet.
I spoke with one of the staff and told her my problem with the phone, she said she would get an engineer onto the problem, I then pointed out that I couldn't get through to them on the phone and was there a problem, her straight faced answer was "we've turned off the phones as they keep interrupting the staff". I was so stunned I just left the office without making a suitable reply. If it wasn't for the fact that really indoors likes the TV system I would drop them like a hot stone.

The Internet has been very intermittent over the last few days, so I decided to go back to the office and speak face to face seeing as they weren't answering the phone anyway. Well the place was crowded with likeminded 'customers' moaning about the lack of Internet, I was 4th in the queue and it sounded like everyone was in the same boat with a very poor service.
Once it was my turn to speak to the poor girl at the desk I pointed out the poor service and that I would like to speak to a supervisor, she said there was no one there ( they were probably hiding in the back room) I pointed out that this had been going on for sometime and what kind of compensation would I be getting, she didn't answer. So I said I would give it until Saturday then I would be ending my contracts with them. When I left there were 4/5 waiting to be seen.
So I'm now hunting for a new reliable internet/TV/phone provider. So who is with what provider and how much do you pay?

Which company are you with I am with GATV and never had a problem can't remember what it cost as I pay it yearly think it was about €140
-
GATV are brilliant
Their "holiday maker" package is perfect for us.
I drop them an email asking them to "turn it on", Asun always replies to the email confirming it will be on.
Within the first couple of days of being there I nip up and pay her.
When I have had an issue one of the family has always come to the house within the day and resolved the problem
Use with confidence
When we spent more time there we used Telefonica.....never had a problem, but a bit pricey for 3 months a year!!

Any problems with internet from Grannet today? If so is it back? Having problems accessing. Thanks
-
Not for me, in fact it's getting better by the day and I've just had the cabling and box fitted for the new all singing all dancing fibre broadband, I will keep you informed of its claimed 100 Mbps. I'm not holding my breath.

All sorted now...an engineer had to call but in fairness to them response time very quick.

Grannet called to office this morning as no internet. Two very pleasant engineers came at the arranged time and all sorted.
