Just having a wander round today - sad to see L'Espigo appears to have shut for good. Real shame - we used the place all year round and in the summer in particular with the nice views and breeze it was great place for pre-dinner or later at night.
Also looks like La Cesta has shut also, bakery and coffee - been there ages by the banks and Chinese shop in upper monte y mar
Sign of the times ?

Down the bottom we have a new Tattoo shop, a new personal trainer "shop" (yes, good luck), and the Opticians and PC-red moving location/expanding. I think the incredible business turn around we seem to get here is quite attractive, it's like living in a new town every year :)

Once Upon a Time is up for sale

That was only a 12 month venture Barry. Who advises the people ?

It is sad because everyone needs to make a living. Just not enough room for everyone.

Really sad to see L`ESPIGO has shut down, always enjoyed a coffee
and meal there when we were over, always pleasant service aswell
and the view was great.

I never even had time to notice where (or what) "Once Upon a Time" was?!

I dont think anyone does Rich
Lots of people think it's dead easy to run a bar or open a shop despite never having worked in that trade.
I used to run the franchise department for one of the UK's leading retailers, we had people queueing up to join us, despite a minimum £150k investment, that was c. 30 years ago......after extensive interviews and assessment centres less than 1 in 20 ended up being offered a franchise.
We gave them 13 to 26 weeks training dependent on their backgrounds and aptitude, quite a few realised in this training period that running their own business wasn't for them.
Once up and running they had lots of support including a full days visit once a month from a business advisor.....despite all this some still failed, hardly surprising that so many small businesses who have non of this support fail

La Cesta has been bought by an English couple and will re-open shortly. :)

Like most us im a bit of an armchair expert regarding new business ventures in GA, but i have to say when myself and Mrs Victor are assessing the latest venture, will it suceed will it be gone in 12 months i think we normally get it right. I used to think that these new ventures were either a tax dodge or genuine people with a dream. Incidentally are these new start ups by people new to the area or are they seasoned veterans who see an opportunity

Let's set up a poll for how long it stays open!
-
I'd missed the posts re La Cesta and wandered down there today. The new owner was there and also Marguerite . She said it was sold yesterday. The new people , yes English, intend keeping it the same, bakery /coffee shop. Let's hope so , sad to see the other lovely family go.

I once went in there. Sat down in a chair outside. No one came to serve me. Could not leave my seat in case I lost it. Eventually I went in to order and the guy said he would not come outside to serve me. Never went in again. Very helpful, deserve to not succeed
-
But we should give the new owners a chance Barry. I'm sure he new owners will give you great service

Not sure that some of these places ever set out with a business plan just a dream that rapidly turns into a nightmare !! I wish all of the businesses well it makes GA better the more there are but in winter there is not enough trade for all
-
Yes of course, Rich and Sue, my experience should have no bearing whatsoever on the new owners. I wish them well. I wish every business well, everyone deserves to be able to make a living. Just pleased my expertise was print related.

We try out most new places and normally vote with our feet, if a place impresses we return if a place bombs we usually try again weeks later if they bomb again then that is the last euro from me. Might sound harsh but thats the way it is

where is la cesta please?
-
I think it closed yesterday :(
-
Ive never heard of that one tbh

La Cesta is up and running with new owners. :) It is located on the same stretch of shops, bars etc as Dream Corner. 8)

Lots of you will recognise Steve and Jan who now have La Cesta from Chasers and Just Desserts. Good Luck to them 👍

Love restarting a old thread, something going on in the old E’Spigo. Workmen are upstairs and opening that up - something that even the old Nan King never did. Doubt if it’s for opening before March as the area is understandably very quiet at this point in the season.
.... hope it’s something with a bit of class

Hopefully the owner of Marandi, which IMHO was undoubtedly the best restaurant that GA has ever seen has decided to have another go with a more reasonable landlord.
As you say BeachLife, hopefully it’s something with a bit of class

Morning John. That would be good. There is a common denominator here Both buildings belong to MASA- who escalated the rents on both businesses unreasonably driving gem out of business. Let’s see if common sense has prevailed

In that case I very much doubt it will be the ex Marandi owner after what they said to me about MASA.
Enjoy your break BeachLife it’s a bit chilly back home in your neck of the woods.
