Call me a cynic but I don't think I'll rush out to buy a new set of clubs on the strength of that article.

I feel for those retired people who bought a place 14 odd years ago thinking they’d be playing golf across the road - by the time it is ready they will be far too old (or worse)

Saw the front page on Facebook today. I hope it's true that GA is now booming.
As always, gonna read it on the ole Thigh pad when I get a minute. Hopefully it's an interesting as the previous editions have.

Maybe I missed it but which property did you purchase in the end?

We haven't bought yet and are unsure whether to.
We've been talking to others who've bought and one of the big problems is laying out a huge amount of money, which you won't get back until you are ready to come home....which could be an end of life scenario!
We've also travelled a bit more around Spain, including Tenerife.
The current thinking is to rent for a few months, maybe April - June, then September to November and spend the summer and winter in the uk.
We met a couple in Tenerife who were paying €500 per month for a fabulous villa a little down the coast from Los Cristianos from September to April. You can barely stay in the UK for that price when you include the cost of heating etc.

Having said that, the way the weather is here in the UK at the moment, I'm sorely tempted to sell up altogether and move.  :)
Trouble is, we change our mind every 5 minutes.

Cheers
Davy !!!

Davy, hindsight is a great thing....in hindsight I would do exactly what you are saying, rent a place......or buy somewhere with warmer winter months than GA.
I’m an optimist and make the best of any situation, or do my best to, but coming here in the Winter months isn’t a great deal of fun.....if we didn’t have the place and feel committed to use it we wouldn’t be here.

I appreciate your honesty John.
The truth is, I find the winter months in the UK the hardest. I've often said that I'm solar powered.....and if GA doesn't tick all the winter boxes, then so be it.
On the other hand, If I knew I could spend 6 months in Spain and 6 months in the UK, then maybe I could just crank up the central heating and put up with the Uk winters?

The alternative is Tenerife, but house prices are higher and the wife hates cockroaches! I'd spend a fortune keeping them at bay!

Luckily, I'm only 52, so plenty time to decide before retiring....hopefully by 60 at the latest.

Cheers
Davy !!!

I bought when I was 45 and for me - working hard in the UK the advantage of lower prices and the short flight times allowed me the weekend breaks I would never of done if I had bought in the canaries.

For what we bought our house for in GA even in 2005 you couldnt get a decent apartment for in Southern Tenerife - and now its paid for and the kids are older they are now using it for their holidays - exactly what we bought it

Canaries are nice (my eldest son worked there for 7 years) and the winter weather is great so I can see the attraction

Each to their own
